5 reasons it is hard to wait and listen for Jesus
1. I don't have the time- Make time. There is always at least 5 minutes each day that you have free. If you came to this blog from facebook....that means you were on facebook....you see where I'm going with this?
2. I don't have a place.-Make a place. You have to look for it but there is always a place. Go for a walk, or sit in a closet, God can meet you anywhere.
3. I forget about it-Make it a habit. It should be just as common as brushing your teeth.
4. It's boring-Make an effort. Change something. Move. Prayer doesn't have to be simple "God bless America....God bless my parents....Bless that guy that brings my shopping cart from the thing." Make it exciting.
5. Nothing happens- Make room for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is your best tool when you feel like nothing is happening. Regardless of the situation, the Holy Spirit is ready and wanting to come and take over. Wait for Jesus. He's been waiting for you.
Notes from the Peanut Gallery:
So Ben asked at the beginning why you think praying is difficult. So, I figured I would open this part comment section...or the facebook comment section....either one works....works very well....even if you're reading this a month from now you can still comment...just saying....anyway I was wondering if their are any special ways that YOU try and make prayer better, less boring, that sort of thing. So comment below.
I really love that you guys are doing this! Thank you for being faithful to post the Word for each week! It is funny how God works and will speak the same Word over and over in certain seasons, especially when you need it the most. :)
ReplyDeleteI have found that in prayer, although sometimes I say "I don't have the time," or "I forgot to," prayer for me seems like a chore most of the time. I have to pray everytime I eat a granola bar or piece of pizza, I have to pray every morning because its what I should do.
God has been showing me lately that the more I spend time with Him, just worshipping or even listening in silence, as my heart grows closer to Him, prayer is less of a chore. Prayer becomes something that I want to do. The more I spend time with God, out of pure love for Him, the less prayer feels like guilt and the more my desire to do so grows. The motivation changes from I obligation to desperation to intimately know the One who cannot be described by words.
I know this is nothing particularly special or unique, but I know that my prayer life, and ultimately, my love for God completely changed when I altered my perspective.
